In a press release issued by the public relations officer SPHCMB sa’adatu Suleiman.

A key highlight of the second day was focus on the Primary Health Care (PHC) Advisory Committee.

The workshop reiterated the importance of this committee as a mechanism for strengthening governance, coordination and accountability in PHC delivery.

The day also centered on presentation of five different papers and mapping out “Next Steps”, where participants collectively agreed on concrete action points to sustain reforms under the Primary Health Care Under One Roof (PHCUOR) policy.

These include:

1.Rejigging of LGA PHC Advisory Committees in all LGAs.

2.Payment of counterpart funding to support health programs.

3.Quarterly review meetings between KSPHCMB and ALGON for better coordination.

4.Recruitment of midwives in LGAs experiencing shortages, to address human resource for health gaps and improve delivery of quality maternal & health services.

5.Establishment of PHC Task Force Committees at the local level to improve oversight and accountability.

6.Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) capitalization for additional health facilities to increase coverage across LGAs to ensure sustainable access to essential medicines.

7.Bi-annual meetings between health sector leadership, the legislature, and LGA Chairmen to review progress and strengthen partnerships.

The workshop formally closed with goodwill messages from participants and closing remarks by the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Kano State, who commended the Chairmen for their commitment and assured them of the state government’s support in revitalizing over 1,200 PHC facilities across Kano.

He emphasized that the government is determined to bring quality and affordable health care closer to the people.

In his final address, the Director General of KSPHCMB expressed appreciation to FCDO Lafiya Programme for its technical and financial support, while charging the LGA Chairmen to translate the workshop outcomes into tangible improvements in their local communities.

He reiterated that the revitalization of PHC is not just a policy goal but a necessity for achieving universal health coverage in Kano State.

The event ended on a note of renewed commitment from all stakeholders to build stronger, more resilient PHC systems that will deliver better health outcomes for the people of Kano.
