The Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs, Children, and Disabled in collaboration with the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (ROLAC II) Program implemented by International IDEA, hosted a successful Data Collection Orientation Meeting.
In a press release issued by the director public enlightenment of the ministry Bintu Nuhu Yakasai said thst the meeting is aimed to assess barriers to accessibility for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across public spaces, buildings, transportation, and other facilities in Kano State.
The Director Disabled , Dr. Binta Bala of the women affairs,Children and Disabled Department presented the objectives of the meeting, highlighting the importance of creating a more inclusive and accessible environment for PWDs.
The Hon. Commissioner Amina Abdullahi Sani HOD ably represented by the Special Adviser on women affairs, Hajiya Sadiya Abdu Bichi expressed government’s commitment to promoting the rights and welfare of PWDs.
She appreciated the support of the ROLAC II Program and highlighted the Ministry’s efforts towards creating a more inclusive society.
The Coordinator of the ROLAC II Program, Malam Ibrahim Bello, delivered a goodwill message, reiterating the Program’s dedication to supporting initiatives that promote accessibility and inclusivity.
The meeting brought together key stakeholders to discuss the assessment of barriers to accessibility and identify solutions to enhance the inclusivity of public spaces.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to complying with Section 6 of the Federal Disability Act of 2018, which mandates the modification of inaccessible public buildings and structures to accommodate PWDs.
