Kano State Branch of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) has described illegal motor parks in Kano as a serious threat to security and revenue generation drive by the government.
The Deputy chairman in charge of operation Comrade Auwal Bello Isma’il disclosed this while briefing our correspondent who visited the park to assess success and challenges.
He therefore called on the Kano State government to ban illegal motor parks for the safety of lives and properties as well as enhanced revenue generation.
Comrade Auwal Bello, better known as Auwal Danhajiya express the operation of such illegal motor parks in the state.
The Deputy vice chairman who described patronizing motor parks as key to the safety of travelers emphasized the need to sanitise transport systems in the state for sustainable progress.
Comrade Auwal Danhajiya called on the state government to fulfil its plans to establish trucks motor park at Kwanar Dawaki.
Speaking on Kwanar Dawaki motor park, the Deputy Vice Chaiman said it was established more than 40 years ago and is currently employing over ten thousand youths .
He advocate for the modernisation of motor parks and urged stakeholders to ensure the existence of legal transport unions in the operation of such motor parks.
He then called for the enforcement of registration of vehicles and drivers serving in such motor parks.
He further assured of the support of RTEAN towards revenue generation drive for the government while calling on members of the union to subsidise transport fares in view of the economic hardship.
Some of the passengers interviewed, Mohd Usman, Mrs. Console and Mr. Bolaji said they always preferred to patronise motor parks while traveling to Abuja, Osun, Lagos and other parts of the country for the safety of their lives and property.
