Africa Health Budget Network Reveals Annual scorecard on immunization Budget and Accountability

Africa Health Budget Network (AHBN) in collaboration with African field epidemiology Network (AFENET) has revealed it’s outcome of the year 2024 Annual scorecard on immunization budget and accountability.

Addressing some journalists and stakeholders at the emergency operation center, Muhammad Abdullahi wase specialist hospital, the state focal person AHBN Dr Musa Muhammad Bello said that within the two year span of the project, series of activities were conducted which include establishment of community of practice for immunization, Advocacies and stakeholder engagements, immunization monitoring surveys in kumbotso and sumaila LGAs as well as development of immunization budget tracking and accountability scorecard amongst others.

AHBN, AFENET PAID AN ADVOCACY VISIT TO KANO HEALTH COMMISSIONER TO TACKLE ZERO-DOSE

Dr Musa Bello said that the press briefing was to share success, advocate for improve commitments from all stakeholders towards addressing the zero dose and under immunized children issues in the state.

The zero dose learning hub which is an innovative initiative by global alliance on vaccines initiative (GAVI) aims at enhancing health care professionals knowledge and skills regarding immunization practices in Nigeria as well as demand for immunization to reach the underserved children.

The project aim to address gaps in immunization equity through the provision of structured framework for Nigeria to improve data use and promptly generate evidence that can successfully be identified, measure, monitor and reach zero dose children, under immunized children and the missed communities were they reside he stated,”.

KANO COP URGE SPHCMB FOR ACCOUNTABILITY ON IMMUNIZATION BUDGET

While appreciating the effort of the state government for sustaining a double digit health budget allocation above the Abuja 15 % declaration and having a budget code for immunization services as well a establishing of state task force on immunization and primary health care chaired by the Deputy Governor.

Dr Musa urge the state to speed up processes of timely releases of counterpart funds on immunization at state and local government levels to address gaps in reaching out to zero dose children in various communities in the state.

AHBN focal person stated that development partners and other organizations supporting zero dose activities in the state should harmonized their activities and interventions to avoid duplication and waste of resources, he stressed”.

The project is being implemented in four states of Sokoto, Kano, Bauchi and borno
