Kano state Led Accountability Mechanism (kanSlam) urge journalists in the state to step up efforts in amplify ways to reduce maternal death in Kano state.
This was disclosed by the co – chair kanSlam Hajia Maimuna yakubu Muhammad in her welcome remarks during an interactive program with media practitioners in the state.
Hajia Maimuna said that kanSlam is a combination of civil society organisations, media, Academia and the private sector.

As it is a voluntary forum bringing everyone together, she said kanSlam core mandate is to voice out issues bedevilling people in community through awareness creation and also on budget tracking and timely releases of funds.
She added that in doing so the government will be aware that somebody is observing them looking at issues around the health sector to focus on a solution to improve on the health of the citizenry in the state especially at the community level.
She then said that she is optimistic that each person will bring their own contribution so as to move the health agenda in the state.
And urge participants to participate actively in bringing up recommendations that will be of benefit to the general public.
In their good will messages path finder international and FCDO Lafiya said that such forum is of immerse importance as it enhances critical thinking on ways to reduce maternal mortality drastically in the state .
Making his presentation on financing analysis on reproductive health and family planning the facilitator Suleiman Ismail said that in the year 2024 the budget bench mark stood at 13 percent while in 2025 it reduced to 12 percent but in the year 2026 budget it covers the 15 percent benchmark of the Abuja declaration on health.
He stated that the recommendation is centered around having a based funding to address maternal mortality, to improve on timely releases for efficient service delivering and to ring fence family planning, reproductive health, maternal newborn child health funds for accountability.

He then enumerated some five key advocacy messages to the participants which conducted will be an avenue for the intervention of the state government in the reduction of maternal death in the state.
