Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has identified the creative and cultural industry commonly known as the “Orange Economy“—as a critical catalyst for job creation and sustainable economic expansion in Kano State and across Nigeria.
The Governor made the remarks during a farewell dinner for a delegation from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, following their one-week study tour in Kano focused on “Orange Economy and Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development.”
Represented by the Deputy Governor Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, Governor Yusuf emphasized that targeted investments in Kano’s creative and entrepreneurial sectors will unlock significant value for the state’s economy.
Participants of the NIPSS Senior Executive Course (SEC) 48, 2026, conducted field assessments across key cultural sites, commercial markets, government institutions, and private enterprises to evaluate the state’s economic realities.
Delegation Leader Brigadier General L.A. Jimoh commended the Kano State Government for fostering enterprise and craftsmanship, noting that Kano’s rich history in commerce, textiles, leatherwork, film, media, and digital enterprise provides an ideal bedrock for the Orange Economy.
”Kano remains a major historical and modern center of enterprise, innovation, craftsmanship, and human capital. The state’s long-standing history provides a strong foundation for generating wealth and empowering women and youth.”
Brigadier General Jimoh particularly commended state-led initiatives aimed at youth and women empowerment, notably the revival of 26 entrepreneurship skills training institutes.
These centers have equipped thousands of local youths with vocational proficiencies, practical working tools, and start-up capital support.
The event concluded with remarks from the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Suleiman Wali Sani, and the Planning Committee Chairman, Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Commissioner of Agriculture and Natural Resources), who both expressed appreciation to NIPSS for selecting Kano as a benchmark for national policy research.
