KanSLam Trains WDCs on Monitoring, Accountability of Heath Facilities

Kano State Led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM) in collaboration with Pathfinder International organize a 2-day Capacity Building for Ward Development Committees (WDC) Chairmen on basic health care provision funds (BHCPF) Tracking and Implementation for the improvement of Women Health in Kano State.

The co-chair knowledge management committee (KMC) Nafisa Ahmed Murtala said that the essence of the event was to train health facility Ward development committee chairmen in each local government areas into two batches to update their skills on the implementation of the basic health care provision funds at the facilities.

She said that the wdcs are expected to step down the training to other members in the community.

She then added that each WDCs are representatives of the community so they need to take ownership of their facility Health care services in the wards/ local government areas.

She hope to witness significant change by the end of the First quarter of this year.

On his part the ward development health committee program coordinator Kano state primary health care management board Mallam Ado Jibril sanda said that the WDC is a community approve structure from the grass root to the state level in each community as the purpose is to improve the capacity of the WDCs on accountability.

A facilitator Dr Awwal Halilu stated that the WDCs are watch dogs in their local government health facilities in the event of any issues arising at the health facilities there are numerous ways they will use to curtail the challenges.

He said that people in the community need to take ownership of their health facilities and in any eventualities that may occur they should abide by the different levels of reporting issues exacerbating the health facilities.

Dr Halilu added that the score card template was developed by the WDCs under the guidance of the trainers which was an impressive turnout.

One of the participants Ashiru liman Dankunkuru of Gayawa ward ungoggo LGA said they have learn a lot in terms of using the facility spot check list to see to the progress of the health facility.
