As we celebrate Eid, the Youth Society for the Prevention of Infectious Diseases and Social Vices (YOSPIS) calls on young people across Kano to mark the occasion in peace, unity, and harmony, shunning all forms of violence and negative behavior.

In a statement released today, the Executive Director, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, emphasized the importance of fostering an atmosphere of brotherhood and mutual respect during this festive period. “Eid is a time of joy, reflection, and gratitude. It is a time to strengthen our bonds as a community and uphold the values of love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence,” said Zainab Nasir Ahmad.

OSPIS has been at the forefront of youth empowerment and social reformation in Kano, engaging thousands of young people in positive initiatives aimed at fostering a better society. In light of past incidents of unrest and social disturbances during festive seasons, the organization is urging young people to reject any form of violence, drug abuse, or anti-social behavior.

“We strongly advise our youth to celebrate responsibly and avoid any engagement in activities that could disrupt the peace of our communities.

Let us use this occasion to support one another, help those in need, and uphold the values of respect and integrity,” Zainab Nasir Ahmad added.

The Executive Director further called on religious and community leaders, parents, and security agencies to play an active role in ensuring a peaceful celebration.

She encouraged young people to partake in community-building activities, such as charity work and volunteering, as a way of making Eid more meaningful.

In addition, YOSPIS appeals to political leaders and stakeholders to champion peace and set a positive example for their youth followers. “Leadership comes with responsibility.

We urge our leaders to promote messages of unity and ensure that their followers conduct themselves in a manner that fosters peace, partnership, and development.

A peaceful society is the foundation for progress, and it is our collective duty to safeguard it,” Zainab Nasir Ahmad urged.

YOSPIS remains committed to advocating for a violence-free society and will continue to work with relevant stakeholders to promote peace and positive engagement among Kano’s youth
