Third Quarter: KANO Plane Records Mass training of primary school teachers

About one thousand five hundred primary school teachers along with one hundred master trainers have been supported by plane in partnership with state universal basic Education board (SUBEB) in Kano

This was disclosed by the school base management committee chairman (SBMC) Mallam tijjani Haladu baraya, revealing this during 3rd quarter review meeting.

He said that the SBMC and. CMBCs have been trained in the area of community and resource mobilization.

The SBMC Chairman added that plane has supported Eleven local government areas with teaching and learning materials which made an impact in the quality of education delivery in the state.

Tijjani Haladu said that plane had supported drafting of policies which include the integrated Early childhood policy, teacher development policy, girls education policy, inclusive education policy and the non state schools policy in strengthening Education in the state.

He said so far four of the policies have been submitted to the state executive council for approval.

Recently the Executive Governor of Kano state Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has constituted a committee to review the four policies before institutionalizing it for implementation.

During the session it was discovered on market days or harvesting period most of the parents whose income depend on the children prefer to send them to farms rather than attend schools.

He said it is mandatory for each Parents to enroll their child into school, before traditional leaders have the right to enforce parents to make sure children attend school but now the traditional leaders don’t have much to say about the Nigerian constitution.

Mallam tijjani said that base on the outcome of the findings that were conducted in twenty LGAs on the enrollment campaign drive the result was low enrollment and low completion rate in Kano state.

“Government need to enforce the law and the UBEC act that said every child must be in school, so government must do something on that to ensure traditional leaders and other community stakeholders are engaged in enforcing the law’, he stressed.”

He then commended the effort of the state government in maintaining school infrastructures which are over nine thousand disperse across forty- four LGAs comprising of primary, junior and senior secondary schools.

On her part, secretary to the state universal basic Education board as well secretary of the technical working group plane, Amina Umar said that the routine activity is conducted quarterly to check on the progress made within the period of September to December.

She said that there are still ongoing activities while some activities have ended, even though there are activities that are aimed to be achieved before the end of the year.

The secretary said that stakeholders are invited to put heads together to support the education in the state.

And she call on private organizations to come on board to rally round each child attend school in a conducive atmosphere for learning
