Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment towards eradicating polio and safeguarding the health of its citizens as it flagged off OBR1 Polio Eradication Campaign for April 2025 in Warawa Local Government Area.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade, Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, who represented His Excellency the Executive Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, emphasized the critical importance of routine immunization in the fight against preventable diseases.
He highlighted the notable achievements of the current administration in improving healthcare delivery and enhancing the overall well-being of the citizens.
The Deputy Governor assured that the Kano State Government remains resolute in taking all necessary measures to eradicate polio and other vaccine-preventable diseases.
He commended the pivotal roles played by traditional and religious leaders as well as development partners, in supporting government initiatives towards a healthier Kano State.
In his address, the Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), Dr. Nasir Muhammad Mahmud, disclosed that comprehensive arrangements have been made to ensure the successful execution of the campaign, which targets the immunization of over 3.8 million eligible children across the state.
He appealed to parents, caregivers, and community members to extend full cooperation to health workers during the exercise in order to achieve the desired goals.
Also speaking at the event, the representative of His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, the District Head of Shanono, Dr. Bashir I. Muhammad, called on traditional leaders to actively mobilize their communities and ensure that every eligible child receives the polio vaccine.
He pledged the continued support and cooperation of the traditional institution towards the success of the campaign.
Representatives of UNICEF, WHO, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, US CDC, and other development partners also delivered goodwill messages, reaffirming their unwavering support for the polio eradication efforts in Kano State.
The OBR1 Polio Eradication Campaign stands as a testament to the unwavering resolve of the Kano State Government and its partners in safeguarding the future of every child through effective immunization strategies.
