KSPHCMB, 44 LOCAL GOVT AREAS UNITE TO TRANSFORM GRASSROOT HEALTH CARE

Kano State is set for a major healthcare boost as the government and traditional leaders has  strategize a  plan to overhaul primary health delivery and accountability.

In a major move to transform grassroots health services, the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) and the leadership of all 44 Local Government Areas have officially adopted a comprehensive six-point action plan.

The breakthrough agreement was reached during a high-stakes, two-day bi-annual meeting held on June 18–19 at the Bafra Hotel in Kaduna.

Convened under the theme “Sustaining Effective Collaborative Relationship Between KSPHCMB and ALGON,” the session focused heavily on performance tracking, accountability, and driving real results for local communities.

Top health officials and lawmakers emphasized that collaboration is the missing link to solving local health challenges.

Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim Director General of KSPHCMB stressed that a sustained partnership between the board and local councils is non-negotiable for success.

Pharmacist Aminu Bashir Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health challenged leaders to show stronger commitment to planning and strict accountability.

Hon. Aminu Sa’ad Aminu House Committee Chairman on Information reaffirmed that the Kano State House of Assembly is fully ready to back these grassroots health reforms with strong legislative support.

The Six-Point Blueprint for Change to ensure the meeting translates into actual progress, stakeholders locked in six binding resolutions:

Data-Driven Focus: Developing and sharing a clear, one-page health index summary for every single one of the 44 LGAs to track progress.

Local Accountability: Collecting direct feedback from LG Chairmen regarding their specific six-month health action plans.

Structural Reforms: Re-orienting Local Government Health Authority (LGHA) Advisory Committees to align with current health sector updates.

Budgetary Backing: Training Heads of Planning, Research, and Statistics (PRS) to secure dedicated budget lines for expanding health programs.

Financial Discipline: Strictly using official budget books to guide the execution of all approved health activities.

Tackling Malnutrition: Strengthening ties with the Ministry of Planning and Budget to set up functional Food and Nutrition Committees across all LGAs.

The event wrapped up with a unified pledge from KSPHCMB, ALGON, local chairmen, lawmakers, and international partners to immediately roll out these strategies to ensure better care reaches every corner of Kano State.
