He pointed out that, health workers have a vital role to play as the country is facing serious health challenges through outbreak of cholera, diphtheria, malaria among others.

In his remarks the state coordinator national primary healthcare development agency Kano field office Dr. Kabiru Mustapha Yakasai explained that the initiative, mandated by the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, is designed to enhance the clinical competencies of 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide.

“These master trainers, comprising doctors, nurses, midwives, Community Health Officers and Community Health Extension Workers, are now set to cascade their training at the state level”

The State Coordinator, World Health Organization (WHO)Dr. Mayana Sunusi Abubakar described the training as apt.

He stressed that, the PHC is a cornerstone universal healthcare coverage as it is the backbone of quality healthcare delivery .

Mayana noted that achieving universal health coverage without having well trained healthcare providers is just like something dead on arrival.

“WHO will provide all the necessary support “

The training program is coordinated by the World Health Organization (WHO) with the support of Global Vaccine Alliance (GAVI),UNICEF, the African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), and SOLINA.
