KNSG TO TRANSFORM RADIO KANO INTO A TRAINING HUB FOR JOURNALISTS

The Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, has unveiled plans by the state government to invest in Radio Kano, transforming it into a center for training journalists and enhancing its operations.

In a press statement issued by the Director special duties Sani Abba yola.

Comrade Waiya made this announcement during a familiarization visit to the station, describing Radio Kano as one of the oldest radio stations in the country, with significant potential if fully equipped.

He stated that the government is committed to initiating capacity-building programs for both public and private media organizations, recognizing their critical roles in driving economic growth and creating employment opportunities for youth in the state.

The Commissioner further urged the management of Radio Kano to prioritize staff welfare, particularly for junior workers.

He suggested establishing a cooperative society for staff members and pledged his support to ensure its success.

Additionally, Comrade Waiya emphasized the importance of forming partnerships with international media organizations to enhance the quality of Radio Kano’s programming, attract advertisements, and boost revenue generation.

In his welcome address, the Managing Director of Radio Kano expressed gratitude for the Commissioner’s visit and assured him of harmonious working relations with the staff.

He also highlighted some of the station’s recent achievements, including the payment of six months’ allowances to casual staff, the establishment of a medical center, and the upgrade of the station’s frequency to 13 kilo hertz.

However, the Managing Director pointed out certain challenges, such as unstable power supply, which hinder full operations.

He appealed to the Commissioner to intervene in restoring the station’s retainer ship with the 44 local government areas in the state.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Adamu Bala Muhammad, urged the staff to strictly adhere to civil service rules and regulations to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
