Issued in a press statement by the ministry of health information officer Ibrahim Abdullahi, as disclosed by the State Commissioner for Health and the Co-Chair State Taskforce Committee on Immunization, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, yesterday, during the committees meeting at the Africa House, Government House, Kano.

The commissioner noted that it is usual whenever there is going to be a round of polio exercise, stakeholders come together to map-out strategies for the successful conduct of the activity and thereafter convey the message to the public to bring out their children to access the services.

He appealed to people to make judicious use of the opportunity to ensure that their eligible children are vaccinated in other to achieve the set  target of eradicating polio from the state and  the country.

Dr. Labaran stated that in an effort to fine-tune the exercise, awards have been introduced among local government areas with a view to sort out the best four that excel during the exercise, adding that the award is aimed at sensitizing and persuading the stakeholders to keep up with the standard and the good work they have been doing to ensure the campaign is successful in the entire state, thereby pushing each LGA to have the zeal to win the trophy.

The commissioner lauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for supporting the health services since coming on board, appreciating his compassion and mindfulness to care for the well being of the people in the state.

He also commended His Royal Highness, the Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammad Sanusi II, for his support to eradicate polio in the state by directing district heads to involve in the activities of the polio exercise in each of their communities.

He also appreciated the development partners who were putting their efforts and resources to see that the healthcare system of the state is robust and standardized.

Dr. Labaran used the opportunity to congratulate the newly elected local government chairmen and enjoined them to accord polio eradication and other health activities with topmost priorities, being one of the cardinal principles of His Excellency as contained in his blueprint.
