Kano ministry trains staff on procurement practices

The Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano State has successfully conducted a two-day workshop on Procurement Ethics and Standards in Public Service. The event, held at Manpower Development Institute, Dutse, Jigawa State, highlighted the critical role that procurement plays in the effective functioning of public service.

About 80 Procurement Desk Officers across ministries, departments and agencies in Kano state attended the workshop.

In his welcome address, the Honorable Commissioner Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano Hon. Ibrahim Ali Namadi Dala who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano Engr. Garba Adamu noted that the ministry in recent years witnessed a growing recognition of the need for ethical standards in procurement practices.

“The challenges we face underscore the importance of establishing a robust procurement system at the MDAs that promotes transparency, accountability, and fairness.

This workshop is a significant step towards achieving that goal” he stressed.

“Over the next two days, we will engage in meaningful discussions, share best practices, and explore innovative solutions to enhance our procurement processes.

We have gathered a diverse group of experts, practitioners, and stakeholders who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the table.”

The honorable commissioner then expressed his gratitude to His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for approving the workshop, and the organizing committee and all those who have worked tirelessly to make the workshop a reality.

The head of Civil Service, Kano State, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa also the chairman at the workshop and was represented by the Permanent Secretary Manpower Development Directorate Office of the Head of Civil Service, Kano State, Alhaji Abba Danguguwa.

Key speakers at the workshop include, the Chairman Public Complaint and Anti-Corruption Commission, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado who spoke ‘Understanding Corruption Risks in Public Procurement: A Guide for Effective Procurement Implementation in Kano State, Prof. Abdulazeez Umar Raji, Deputy Dean, Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, Bayero University, Kano who spoke on ‘Understanding the Public Procurement Process in the New Budget Circle and Alh. Abba Danguguwa, Permanent Secretary Manpower Development Directorate Office of the Head of Civil Service, Kano State, who spoke on the ‘Ethics of the Civil Service’.

Other speakers at the workshop were: Bldr. Mas’ud Lado, Director Planning, Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation who presented paper on ‘Effective Procurement Planning a Panacea of Successful Procurement Implementation, Alh. Bashir Ado Gaya, Sarkin Fadar Gaya, DAGS, MPPPM&E who spoke on ‘Basic Provision of Civil Service Rules and Engr. Ibrahim Idris, Director Civil Engineering and Infrastructure MPPPM&E who spoke on Navigating the Complexity of Public Procurement Process

Participants lastly shared their insights on the challenges and solutions encountered in the public procurement process.
