Kano Emirate council To address plight of children

Children in Kano State have called on Kano Emirate Council to address the plights of children in the state.

Representatives of children from different schools in the state made the call today when they converged at the Emir’s Palace in preparations for the activities organized by the Kano Office of the United Nations Children Fund to commemorate the International Children’s Day celebrated across the globe yearly on the 20th of November.

Amonge the numerous issues presented by the children include; out of school children, drug abuse, maternal mortality and poor care for the orphans as well as widows in the society.

Responding, the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, appreciated the children for the visit and pledged to provide means that will address the children’s welfare and concerns.

The 16th emir of Kano who encouraged the children to dedicate themselves in seeking knowledge, urged stakeholders in the state not to wait for International Organizations to address the plight of children they should rather put all hands-on deck to address them.

Earlier, the head of Kano UNICEF Office, Mr. Rahama Rahood Fara who was represented by the education specialist of UNICEF, Mr. Muntaka Mukhtar said they were at the palace to seek the emir’s fatherly advice in preparation to celebrate the international day.

NBAIS All set to introduce science subjects in school curriculum

Among activities carried out at the emir’s palace include the tour of the Emir Palace by the children, history of the ancient city of Kano as well as the various dynasty that ruled Kano Emirate.
