KANO MMS STRATEGIC DOCUMENT ON COSTED IMPLEMENTATION PLAN DEVELOPED

A three day event on costed implementation plan for Kano state roll out and scale up on multiple micro nutrient supplements for five years have been developed.

Declaring the event open, the Kano commissioner for health Dr Abubakar labaran Yusuf has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to improving nutrition, stressing that it remains a top priority in its health agenda.

He noted that government has continued to invest heavily in nutrition, antenatal care services, adding that Kano State is expected to benefit from a $70 million nutrition intervention supported by the Islamic Development Bank.

He urged participants at the workshop to make judicious use of the training by assisting government efforts toward making Kano a leading state in nutrition and healthcare delivery.

Dr. Yusuf further assured that the present administration under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains steadfast in strengthening the health sector for the benefit of the people.

Consultants from Results for Development (R4D) professor chubuike Uba and Amna Abdusalam extensively gave a background on the MMS road map strategic document at the federal level.

Whereby Kano state is to replicate same road map document on mms within the suitability of the state.

Highlights of the workshop included group presentations by participants on strategies for effective MMS rollout and scale up implementation.

Results for Development is working with the Government of Nigeria and local and international partners to improve health financing to expand coverage of basic primary care on, (MMS) a new multiple micronutrient supplementation costing tool designed to support the introduction and scaling up of multiple micronutrient supplementation (MMS) nationally and sub-nationally.

The Excel-based tool, developed in collaboration with kupara consulting and with funding from the Gates Foundation, assists stakeholders in estimating the costs of all activities necessary for a successful transition from iron folic acid (IFA) supplementation to MMS.
