Ministry of women Affairs has join the global community in celebrating the International Girl Child Day.
In a press statement made available by the Director public enlightenment ministry of women Affairs and disabled, the commissioner Aisha Lawan Saji Rano whose ministry is officially in charge of the affairs of the girl child , commemorates the day with prayers and reflection of some of the achievements recorded for the girl child in the State.
Referring to the day as a special one for the girl child, Honourable Saji revealed that her ministry serves as the major official means through which His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf channels his passion for the girl child through impactful programmes and policies.
She recalled how the ministry with the approval of His Excellency has trained a massive number of 500 girl child and subsequently provided them with a take off capital of #20,000 each.
According to her, that was in addition to similar instances where female children were supported into various skills acquisition training programs on trades like liquid soap making, car wash and izal, for future self reliance.
She also recalled numerous gestures that included full medical, legal, moral, financial and psychosocial supports for assaulted, abused or raped girl child.
The Commissioner also mentioned the continuous efforts by her ministry to see to the passage of bills into laws that favour child rights protection without any gender bias or segregation against the girl child.
While stating that her ministry’s achievements in this regard can not be exhausted in brief terms, she assures that programmes that will improve the life of the girl child are in the pipe line waiting to be executed in due course.
Hajiya Saji then assured of a promising future for any girl child in Kano as the governor himself is very much passionate about them.
She then advised the girl child in Kano to reciprocate the government’s gesture by living up to expectations.
