KSPHCMB Trains 44 Kano Local Government Chairmen on Data-Driven Health Planning

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) has trained all 44 Local Government Area (LGA) Chairmen on using health data to drive budgeting, resource allocation, and decision-making for improved healthcare delivery across the state.

The capacity-building effort was delivered through a two-day Data-to-Decision Leadership Workshop held from August 15–16, 2026, in Kaduna. Organized by KSPHCMB with support from the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), the workshop focused on the theme, “Strengthening Evidence-Based Planning, Accountability and Resource Allocation for Primary Health Care.”

KSPHCMB Director-General, Prof. Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, emphasized that health data must extend beyond collection and reporting.

He urged local leaders to use routine data as a practical tool to identify service gaps, set realistic priorities, and address community health needs.

Representing the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Permanent Secretary Pharm. Aminu Bashir reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with local councils.

He stressed that credible evidence is essential for directing resources where they are needed most.

According to a statement by KSPHCMB Public Relations Officer Sa’adatu Sulaiman, the workshop equipped the council chairmen with practical skills to Interpret routine health data and evaluate local PHC performance.

Pinpoint critical healthcare gaps within their respective areas.

Link health evidence directly to local government planning and budgeting.

Identify high-priority health interventions to include in their 2027 Annual Operational Plans (AOPs).

Following the two-day engagement, the 44 LGA Chairmen pledged to take stronger political ownership, enhance accountability, and rely on data-driven governance.

KSPHCMB expressed confidence that this commitment will lead to strategic resource allocation and improved public health outcomes statewide.
