The Association of Local Government Information Officers in Nigeria has honoured Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, with the presentation of an award of excellence as the best supportive governor in grassroots information development and effective governance..

The award ceremony was held in Abuja on 24th Sept. 2025, during the annual national conference of the association of local government Information officers, and was attended by Information Officers from across the 36 states and Abuja.

Presenting the award of excellence to the Governor, the national President of the Association, Comrade Jibril Aliyu Bisallah said, the choice of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the best supportive governor in grassroots information was based on reformative and transformative initiatives of his administration in this regard.

“We are witnesses to the unprecedented transformation of Information management system that is taking place in Kano State, through initiatives, programmes and interventions by the NNPP led administration such as: continuous manpower development through capacity building, enrolment of information officers into professional bodies, provision of conducive working environment and tools required for effective information management”. Comrade Bisallah highlighted.

Apart from improving the information ecosystem in Kano State through the initiatives and interventions by the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration, which the local government information officers considered, for the award on the governor, tIMG 20250926 WA0024he Association also noted with delight how the government is improving lives in the state through laudable programmes and initiatives, including massive infrastructure development which stands the government out among its peers.

“Anyone who is familiar with Kano can attest to the developmental projects going on across the state such as roads constructions, renovations and reconstruction of schools, hospitals, bridges and other critical infrastructure across MDAs, in addition to manpower development of the state civil service through capacity building, enhanced welfare packages and improved conducive atmosphere for the entire workforce in the State”.

“Therefore considering the unmatched achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, we found him worthy as our choice for this year’s award of excellence.” Comrade Bisallah reiterated.

Responding, while receiving the award on behalf of the governor, the state Commissioner of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who aligned with the position of the Information officers on the choice of Governor Yusuf, thanked them for the award which he described as purely sentiment free and on merit.
