SOLID MINERALS: Ministry Recovers Public School Converted to Office By A Mining Company

The lingering disagreement among the Riruwai Community in Doguwa Local Government Area of the state has been put to rest with strong commitment to collectively work together for the overall development of the area.

In a press statement issued by the Director Public Enlightenment Adamu Ibrahim Dabo, Anipr, MNGE

Commissioner Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu, in the Ministry’s Conference hall brokered peace between the contending parties who prior to the Thursday accord meeting were independent of each other.

The meeting had in attendance the critical community stakeholders who finally agreed to work as a team thereby resolving all the contentious issues that have arisen from the disagreed Community Development Agreement (CDA) signed with Century Mining Company (CMC) in the area.

This is aiming at enhancing mutual cooperation and ensuring the community’s needs are met in accordance with a revised agreement.

Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu who was visibly impressed with the development however charged CMC in particular and other mining companies operating within the state to adhere to environmental regulations and mitigate any possible adverse impacts on the host community.

Moreso, the Commissioner at the meeting directed CMC to urgently vacate a public school that had been converted into an office by the company.

He explained that a comprehensive report on the matter will soon be sent to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for further action accordingly.

This action really underscores the Ministry’s commitment to protecting public assets and ensuring that local services are not compromised due to mining activities.

Engineer Usman Sule Riruwai, a respected leader of the harmonized delegation commended the the Commissioner for having sleepless nights in addressing the misunderstanding as well appreciated the ministry’s efforts in handling the resolved disagreement with utmost care and pledged to forestall future occurrence.

Federal Mines Officer in charge of the state, Engineer Ahmed Musa reaffirmed commitment to supporting the delegation with operational guidelines regarding the process of reaching out to having most acceptable revised CDA.

Special Adviser to Governor on Solid Minerals, Alhaji Aminu Abba Ibrahim and Chairman of Doguwa Local Government Area Alhaji Abdulrashid Rilwan commended the delegation for displaying a sense of maturity and tolerance considered as key to the harmonization.

The Ministry’s prompt intervention highlights its growing emphasis on regulatory oversight in the mining sector, prioritizing community welfare.

Equally the agreement reached by the Riruwai Community marks a pivotal moment in the interaction between local communities and mining companies across the state coupled with the ministry’s recovery of the public school, these developments signal progress toward more responsible and inclusive mining practices that respect the rights and needs of the host community.

Moving forward, the effectiveness of the mutual agreement will depend on the commitment of all parties involved to uphold the agreed principles and ensure sustainable development in the area.

Permanent Secretary Engineer Mansur Yakubu on behalf of the Ministry thanked all critical stakeholders in attendance who contributed to having stability within ancestral brothers.
