Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano the Honorable Commissioner, Comrade Nura Iro Ma’aji has today invited the contractors handling the ongoing construction of Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks of 4 Classrooms for discussion following observations made during the project monitoring tour by the ministry.

In a press statement issued by Information Officer, MPPPM&E, Sagiru Ado Abubakar.

Barely 3 days after his assumption of office, the Honorable Commissioner embarked on a project monitoring tour across the state.

The Honorable Commissioner visited Gaya, Wudil, Dawakin Kudu, Albasu, Garko and Sumaila local governments where he supervised the ongoing construction of Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks of 4 Classrooms.

Discussion centered around the failures identified by the team of engineers who accompanied the Honorable Commissioner to the monitoring tour from the Ministry of Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano

The Permanent Secretary, MPPPM&E, Engr. Garba Adamu, has identified during the monitoring tour as follows:

There were structural problems, which included gabs between walls, cracks on the bricks and crumbling concrete.

He noted most of these problems on the stairs and beams.

The formwork according to the Permanent Secretary in most of the projects are not qualitative enough to allow for better concrete surface finishing.

In most of the places, the concrete mix is completely unacceptable. The supervision both from the clients and supervising ministry lacks a systematic approach and no correlation between the contractors and the client ministries.

On his part, the Director Planning and Statistics, Bldr Mas’ud Lado Saleh, ordered the contractors to stop working until a meeting is organized and conducted between the client ministries and the Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano

In his closing remarks, the Honorable Commissioner emphasized that this meeting became necessary following poor execution of projects by contractors in spite of the huge amount of money spent by the government.

He urged contractors to abide by the terms of agreement reached before the award of contract.
