The Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KSCHMA), in collaboration with the Zayt Foundation for Women and Children, has enrolled 170 Almajiris from Malam Babba Qur’anic School, Hausawa, into the state healthcare scheme.

The initiative marks a milestone in extending quality healthcare to vulnerable children and advancing the goal of universal health coverage in Kano State.

The enrollment ceremony was led by Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, who emphasized the agency’s commitment to inclusivity in healthcare delivery.

“No one should be left behind when it comes to healthcare access. Today’s enrollment is a testimony that even the most vulnerable among us have the right to quality healthcare. Together, we are building a healthier Kano State,” she stated.

The program was undertaken as part of KSCHMA’s broader strategy to address healthcare disparities by enrolling marginalized groups, particularly those who traditionally lack access to essential services such as preventive care, maternal and child health, and treatment for common illnesses.

In a show of appreciation, Alaramma Ahmad Abubakar (Malam Karami), owner and head of Malam Babba Qur’anic School, expressed gratitude to the state government and partners. “On behalf of our pupils, I sincerely thank His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Executive Secretary of KSCHMA, Dr. Rahila Aliyu Muktar, and the Zayt Foundation for enrolling our children into the state healthcare services.

This gesture brings relief and hope to the Almajiri community, and we are deeply grateful,” he said.

The collaboration between KSCHMA and the Zayt Foundation demonstrates the effectiveness of partnerships in driving social impact and improving public health outcomes.

Beyond this initiative, the agency continues to call on development partners, NGOs, and philanthropists to support its enrollment drive for other vulnerable populations across the state.

By ensuring access to healthcare for 170 Almajiris, KSCHMA has reaffirmed its mission of building an equitable healthcare system where every resident of Kano State regardless of background or socioeconomic status can live healthier and more secure lives.
