She said many young girls in the state have become victims of GBV, citing the example of a 12-year-old girl who was recently raped.

According to the Commissioner, the ministry, on average, records 40 cases of GBV every month emphasising.

“Every day, every week, we receive cases of GBV, and the figure is on the increase,” she stressed.

She further said,”‘For Katsina State Ministry of Women Affairs, we are facing a critical situation on the rising cases of gender-based violence; we need urgent government intervention to address the problem.”

She, however, commended the state government for its assistance to victims of gender-based violence and called on the assistance of parents and other relevant stakeholders to join hands with the ministry toward addressing the situation.

The Commissioner said the distribution of the scatter package was designed to address poverty among women in the state.

She said the beneficiaries were trained and assisted for good use of the items.

Earlier speaking, Governor Dikko Umar Radda reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to improve the lives of women.

Radda called on beneficiaries not to sell items provided to them but to use them to generate income.
