Kano State Commissioner for Education, Gwani Ali Haruna Makoda, has endorsed the Kids and Teens Clubs (KATCLUBS) initiative established by KATPAL Africa Initiative, during the official flag-off of the project in Kano.
The Commissioner, who was represented by the Director of Schools, Alhaji Sagir Umar Danbare, described the programme as a complement to the Ministry’s mandate.
He urged the management of the initiative to expand its reach to all government and private schools across the state.
He also emphasized the need to establish career guidance and vocational skills programs to promote self-reliance among students.
Presenting a paper on KATCLUBS and career guidance, a professional in the field, Malam Shehu Ahmad Muhammad, stressed that parents and teachers should consider the individual capabilities of each child when guiding them towards a career path.
On his part, the Kano State Chairman of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Comrade Ibrahim Mai Karfi Muhammad, advocated for more focused career guidance on nursing, midwifery, and other medical-related fields in order to bridge the wide gap in those professions.
Earlier, the head of Administration of the Project , Simbiant Ibrahim Yahaya who spoke on behalf of chief executive officer Dr. David Olalekan stated that the programme aims to instill knowledge on guidance and counseling in young people to help them make informed choices for a better future.
Students also showcased their dreams and aspirations during the event.
