Kano to launch state-wide polio immunisation campaign targeting 3.4 million children

Kano state government in collaboration with partners assured their readiness to eradicating polio virus across the state.

The state immunization officer Hajiya Sa’adatu Ibrahim stated this during a one day Media Dialogues, sensitization and mobilization for April 2026 state National Plus Day’s SNIPDs campaign in the state organised by state primary healthcare management Board in collaboration with national primary healthcare Development Agency in partnership with Global Polio Eradcation initiative.

The state immunization officer represented by Deputy state Immunization officer Malam Muhammad Danbappa said the 8 days exercise will start from Thursday 30 April 2026 with DOB days 0-15 months children in 35 local government areas followed by the House-to-House campaign in all 44 local government areas for four days for 0-59 children and the remaining Two days is for mock up to the exercise.

The state immunization officer further said the Vaccines were provided and it is now available in all 44 local government areas before the flag off of the campaign in Saturday 2nd May 2026.

The state immunization officer further said the objectives of the meeting is to strengthen the collaboration with media to pass the information concerning the exercise to the public, to provide accurate information about the Vaccine as well to know the target groups and the duration of the campaign.

Speaking earlier, the Director General state primary healthcare management Board Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim said the objective of the meeting is to bring stakeholders together to discuss on the campaign modalities as well as the role to play in reaching the target.

The Director General represented by the Director Environment and public Health to the board Alhaji Sani Abdullahi Ungogo called on parents and caregivers to give their support and cooperation during the campaign in bringing out all eligible children for the vaccination.

” When any parents reject the vaccine, he is exposing the child, the community, the local government and the state at large which leads to continue having children affected by polio,” Malam Rabi’u added.

In his goodwill massage the state coordinator national primary healthcare Development Agency Hajiya Maryam Umar said the meeting is to inform the public about the exercise through the media.

The state coordinator represented by Malam Nasiru Salisu Mato further said the meeting is to discuss on the success and challenges during the last campaign in order to see no any children left behind during the next campaign exercise.

The meeting was attended by Journalists, social media influencers and U-Reports and discussed extensively on how the campaign exercise will succeed in the state.
