Kano Partners UNICEF, IHS to Equip 100 Schools with Routers, Digital Training

The Kano State Ministry of Education, in partnership with UNICEF, the Focus Teens Foundation, and IHS, has launched a major digital literacy and school connectivity initiative, training 200 school leaders and provisioning 100 schools with high-speed internet.

In a press release issued by the director public Enlightenment state ministry of education Musbahu Aminu yakasai.

The intensive training, held at the SBMC Hall of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), drew a principal and an ICT teacher from 100 selected schools across the state.

The program is a direct response to global and national targets to map and achieve universal school connectivity by 2030.

By bringing reliable internet access to classrooms, the initiative aims to ensure Kano’s students and educators remain competitive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape while enabling real-time monitoring of digital literacy adoption.

Opening the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Bashir Baffa Muhammad represented by the Director of Schools, Comrade Sagir Umar Danbare underscored internet connectivity as an absolute necessity for modern teaching.

He praised the development partners for bolstering the state’s ongoing efforts to modernize its public education ecosystem.

The Executive Secretary of the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB), Honourable Rabiu Sale Gwarzo—represented by Deputy Director of Schools, Mallam Isa Datti emphasized that equipping school leaders and IT personnel is the critical first step to driving true digital transformation in the classroom.

 To guarantee immediate implementation, every single one of the 100 participating schools was equipped with an internet router paired with a complimentary one-year internet subscription.

Closing the session, Dr. Lukman Tajo Suraj, the Ministry’s Director of Development Partners, expressed deep gratitude to UNICEF, Focus Teens Foundation, and IHS.

He charged the newly trained educators to aggressively deploy their new skills and resources to bridge the digital divide in their respective communities.
