The Kano State Hospitals Management Board has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening free maternity services, child healthcare and Accident & Emergency (A&E) services as part of ongoing efforts to improve health outcomes and reduce maternal and child mortality across the state.
This was the focus of the just-concluded Free Maternity, Child Health and Accident & Emergency (A&E) Committee meeting, chaired by the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, with the Director of Pharmaceutical Services, Pharmacist Isah Bala, serving as Secretary.
The meeting reviewed the progress and implementation of activities under the second quarter (Q2) of 2026, assessing achievements, identifying operational gaps and discussing strategies for improving service delivery across the Board’s health facilities.

A major highlight of the meeting was the discussion on the planned supervision exercise, aimed at strengthening monitoring, ensuring compliance with established standards and improving the quality and effectiveness of free maternity, child health and emergency services across secondary healthcare facilities in the state.
The committee also placed strong emphasis on the urgent need to reduce maternal mortality, with discussions centred on improving access to timely and quality antenatal, delivery and postnatal care, strengthening emergency obstetric services, ensuring availability of essential medicines and commodities, and promoting early referral and prompt intervention in cases of complications.
The Executive Secretary stressed the importance of collective responsibility among healthcare professionals in achieving significant reductions in preventable maternal and child deaths. He called for stronger coordination, effective supervision and continuous improvement in the delivery of healthcare services.
In a statement signed by public Relations Officer State Hospitals Management Board Samira Sulaiman said Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda further reiterated the commitment of the Kano State Hospitals Management Board to supporting healthcare workers and strengthening facilities to ensure that women, newborns and children receive safe, timely and quality care.

The committee resolved to sustain regular monitoring, address identified gaps and strengthen collaboration among relevant departments and facilities to ensure that the gains recorded under the free healthcare programmes are consolidated and translated into better health outcomes for the people of Kano State.
The meeting underscores the Board’s renewed determination to make maternal and child survival a priority, while ensuring that every woman and child who accesses its facilities receives the care they deserve.
