Kano Budgeting ₦60M Monthly for Free Maternal Healthcare to Combat Mortality

The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to drastically reducing maternal mortality and transforming public healthcare delivery across the state.

During a flag-off ceremony for the distribution of free maternal, accident, and emergency commodities, State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, emphasized that these interventions align directly with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s healthcare agenda for women and children.

₦60 Million: Monthly expenditure on free maternal healthcare commodities.

₦37 Million: Approved for accident and emergency supplies.

₦93 Million: Invested in printing patient cards and hospital stationery to eliminate chronic shortages.

44 Secondary & 53 Primary Facilities: Public health centers actively receiving these quarterly supplies.

Data from the last quarter underscores the massive scale of the state’s healthcare outreach:

112,000+ pregnant women accessed antenatal care services.

20,655 successful deliveries were recorded in state facilities.

1,883 pregnant women benefited from free Caesarean Section (CS) services.

The distributed accident and emergency commodities guarantee free treatment for all accident victims within the first 24 hours of admission.

To ensure the supplies reach those who need them most, the government is tightening oversight.

Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, Executive Secretary of the State Hospitals Management Board, revealed that strict anti-diversion measures are now active.

The Beneficiary Register: A new utilization register will track the names, addresses, and phone numbers of every patient receiving free commodities to prevent illegal sales.

The ₦93 million allocation to the State Printing Press has successfully ended the historical scarcity of patient cards and files in state-owned hospitals.

This distribution marks the third quarterly exercise conducted by the Hospitals Management Board this year.
