Gov. Yusuf Extends Humanitarian Gesture to Inmates of Correctional Homes

In a demonstration of firm compassion and humanitarian assistance, Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has extended humanitarian gesture to inmates of three Custodial Homes in the state.

The Custodial Homes that benefitted from the gesture, include Janguza ànd Kurmawa maximum security and Goron-Dutse Custodial centres.

This is contained in a statement issued by the governor’s Spokesperson Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa in Kano.

Making a symbolic presentation of the items donated at the Kurmawa Correctional Home, Governor Abba Kabir said the donation was aimed to support the welfare of the inmates and comfort their living condition in the Correctional Homes.

Represented by the Commissioner of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, the governor added that the Initiative reflects Kano State Government committement to the rehabilitation and reintegration of the inmates back to the society.

The governor further explained that a committee has been set up to compile list of inmates with debt cases of not more than one million naira for settlement by government.

Responding on behalf of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), the In-charge of Kurmawa Correctional Home, DCCS Ibrahim Isah Rambo appreciated Kano State Government for the kind gesture and assured judicious and transparent use of the items provided.

He aknowledged Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s support to those in Correctional Homes as 64 inmates from Kurmawa alone are to sit for the year 2025 NECO examination; more than 1000 has been enrolled in State Contributory Health Scheme and support to the just concluded Qur’anic recitation (Musabaqa) among inmates.

Items donated to the three Custodial centers include:5 bulls,300 bags of rice (of 25kg ), 4,000 mattresses, 4000 pillows, 4300 blankets, 1500 bags of satchet water, 750 cartons of soft drinks and 60 Jerry cans of cooking oil (of 25 litres each).

Others are: 25 cartons of maggi cube, 90 cartons of biscuits and sweet, 3 cartons of infant milk, 20 cartons of soap and 15 cartons of sanitary pads.
