Kano state agro climatic resilience in semi arid landscape (ACReSAL) project has recorded a completion of additional two million tree planting exercise across rural areas in the state.
In a press briefing, the state project Co-ordinator (ACReSAL), Dr Dahiru Muhammad Hashim stated that through the support of the executive governor of Kano State Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, the three million tree planting project has recorded a tremendous achievements in combating soil from desertification, wind erosion and sunlight exposure as one hundred and six kilometers of shelter belt have been rehabilitated in the state.
The project Co-ordinator ACReSAL stated that four kilometers by twenty shelter belts in makoda, bagwai, tsanyawa and Ghari local government areas are being rehabilitated for its immerse importance in maintaining soil fertility and combating land degradation.
He however said that a woodlot plantation has been establish to provide sustainable firewood for local communities in reducing indiscriminate felling of trees.
Dr Dahiru then emphasized that about twenty – one thousand two hundred and sixty – one hectares of degraded land has been restored under the 3MPT initiatives in the state.
