Kano State, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has awarded the winners of the 39th Annual Kano Qur’anic Competition with slots for the 2025 Hajj pilgrimage and cash prizes of ₦2 million each.

This was issued in a Press statement by the press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Kano State Ibrahim Garba shuaibu

He said the grand finale of the competition was held at the School of Arabic Studies, Kano, where Buhari Sunusi Gezawa and Fatima Abubakar Tarauni emerged as the overall champions in the male and female categories, respectively.

Represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Governor Yusuf commended the participants for their commitment and exceptional performance throughout the competition.

He expressed optimism that Kano’s representatives would excel in the forthcoming National Qur’anic Competition slated to take place this month in Kebbi State.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to promoting religious education, supporting Islamic schools, and strengthening Tsangaya Education.

He also urged the Muslim community to unite in prayers for the resolution of security challenges in Nigeria and for peace in Muslim-majority nations facing crises, including Sudan, Palestine, and Syria.

Speaking at the event, the Emir of Kano, Dr. Muhammad Sunusi II, congratulated winners and praised Kano’s long-standing reverence for the Qur’an and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

He attributed the peaceful coexistence in Kano to these shared values and applauded the government’s efforts to sustain religious harmony.

The Emir encouraged people of Kano to strive for excellence in all areas, including education, sports, business, and politics, while continuing to set a high standard in religious competitions.

Speaking earlier, Commissioner for Education, Umar Haruna Doguwa, commend the Governor for addressing a backlog of withheld results from the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) dating back to 2021.
