The Kano State Ministry of Health has successfully completed the 4th cycle of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign across the 44 Local Government Areas of the State.

The exercise was conducted from Sunday, 19th to Wednesday, 22nd October, 2025, in collaboration with the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB) and other health development partners.

The SMC campaign remains one of the key interventions by the Kano State Government aimed at reducing the spread of malaria, particularly among children aged 3 to 59 months.

The exercise involved house-to-house visits for the administration of preventive malaria medicines and community sensitization on the importance of malaria prevention and environmental sanitation.

The Ministry of Health noted that the completion of this 4th cycle coincides with the end of the rainy season and the beginning of the cold season a period when mosquito breeding rates begin to decline.

Nevertheless, the Ministry emphasized the need for continuous environmental hygiene to prevent further spread of the disease.

In the year 2025, remarkable progress has been recorded as reports between the healthcare workers, and our development partners.

The Ministry attributed the success of the exercise to the dedication and hard work of health workers at all levels who ensured the campaign was executed effectively and efficiently.

The Ministry also advised residents to maintain clean surroundings and avoid stagnant water, as such environments serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes even during the cold season.

It further reminded the public of the importance of using insecticide-treated nets (ITNs) and other preventive measures to protect families from mosquito bites and malaria infection.

Finally, the Kano State Ministry of Health, under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, appreciated the efforts of healthcare workers, partners and the general public for their continued cooperation and support.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining quality health programmes aimed at protecting lives and ensuring the well-being of all residents across Kano State.
