The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Bauchi State Council, in collaboration with its Kano State counterpart, Gombe State Radio, and Gombe State Television, has organized a sensitization workshop for journalists, writers, and singers on the dangers of promoting divisive or destructive political agendas.
While presenting his paper, the former Managing Director of Kano State Radio, Alhaji Halilu Ahmad Getso, urged journalists to remain professional, adhere strictly to the ethics of their profession, and avoid being influenced by political interests or greed.
He stressed the need for journalists to focus on disseminating factual and truthful information for the benefit of society.
In his remarks, the former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Alhaji Usman Yusuf, noted that journalists play a vital role in promoting good governance, accountability, and positive reforms that can lead to national development while combating immoral and corrupt practices.
The convener of the event, themed “The Struggle of Journalism in Bauchi State Politics”, Comrade Aliyu Shamaki, said the training was organized to enlighten journalists, writers, singers on the importance of professionalism, discipline, moral integrity, and the pursuit of truth and justice in their work.
The workshop was attended by the former Commissioner for Information and lecturer at Bayero University Kano, Professor Umar Faruk Jibril; former National President of the NUJ, Comrade Sani Zoro; the General Manager of Radio Nigeria Kano, Alhaji Yahaya Abdullahi Maikano; the Treasurer of NUJ Kano State Council, Comrade Nura Bala Ajingi; and the Sarkin Mawallafan marubutun Hausa, Alhaji Ado Ahmad Gidan Dabino.
