Kano women Orgs Advocates For Special Seats Bill To Promote Gender Inclusion

A delegation of women’s organizations from Kano State has strongly advocated for the urgent passage of the proposed Special Seats Bill aimed at increasing women’s representation in both the State and National Assemblies.

The delegation, led by the Chairperson of FIDA Kano, Hajiya Salma Ahmad Danbaffa, paid a strategic advocacy visit to key federal lawmakers from Kano State.

Those visited include Hon. Ali Sani Madakin Gini (Dala Federal Constituency), Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa (Doguwa Federal Constituency), Rt. Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum (Tudun Wada Federal Constituency), and Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe (Tofa/Dawakin Tofa Federal Constituency).

The women groups, comprising representatives from organizations such as FIDA, NCWS, NAWOJ, AWITA, FOMWAN, WAWICAN, NILOWV, alongside numerous women aspirants and stakeholders, emphasized the critical need for inclusive governance through the creation of additional legislative seats for women.

Speaking during the visit, the delegation urged the lawmakers to expedite the passage of the bill, noting that women remain the backbone of society and play significant roles, particularly during electoral processes.

They stressed that enhanced representation would further strengthen democratic development and ensure balanced policy-making.

Several prominent voices during the advocacy visits included the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano State Chapter, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara; Hajiya Hauwa Abdullahi, Managing Director of ARTV Kano; Hajiya Gambo; and Malama Habiba of FOMWAN, all of whom highlighted the importance of empowering women politically and giving them a stronger voice in governance.

The delegation reiterated its commitment to sustained advocacy until the bill is passed, expressing optimism that the lawmakers will support this historic initiative for gender inclusion and national development.
