The Kano State Government has announced plans to upgrade Tarda Model Schools to boarding schools, providing opportunities for children from all 44 local government areas across the state.
Commissioner for Education, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, made this announcement at the Smart School Fair held at Smart School Tarda, organized by the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) in collaboration with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the Korean International Corporation Agency (Koica).
Doguwa stated that the government would also establish smart schools in two senatorial districts, north and south, highlighting the Smart School as a model for the future of education.
He emphasized the importance of cutting-edge technology, advanced learning resources, and a curriculum designed to prepare students for the 21st century.
The Commissioner explained that the decision to transform the Smart School into a boarding school was rooted in the belief that a boarding school environment would enhance the educational experience for students.
He noted that this would provide a space for students to immerse themselves in their studies, engage in collaborative learning, and develop critical life skills in a structured, supportive environment.
Executive Secretary of UBEC, Dr Habib Bobboyi assured the commission’s commitment to continuous teacher training and retraining to meet contemporary technology challenges.
He was represented by Prof. Bashir Shehu Galadanci, Director of ICT.
State Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Malam Yusif Kabir, acknowledged the state government’s commitment to prioritizing education and appreciated the support for the commission’s activities in the state.
The fair showcased student progress in innovation, transforming the educational landscape in the state and beyond.
Highlights included debates, cultural dances and other activities.
