Kano Govt Unleashes Mass Ward Ambulances, Solar Grid and Major Security Overhaul

The Kano State Government has announced a series of major initiatives spanning primary healthcare, renewable energy, grassroots security, and youth employment across all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

The resolutions were disclosed during a press briefing today by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Tajo Othman, following an executive meeting chaired by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf alongside LG Chairmen, Speaker of the State Assembly, and the Accountant-General.

Healthcare & Emergency Services

To safeguard lives and drastically reduce emergency response times, the state is distributing one rural ambulance to each of Kano’s 448 wards.

Job Creation: Each ambulance will be assigned two drivers, with recruitment prioritizing qualified locals from their respective wards.

The ambulance will provide immediate transport for critical emergency cases and basic healthcare needs at the grassroots level.

Renewable Energy & Infrastructure

Solar Streetlights: Following facilitation by Hon. Abba Bichi, the immediate rollout of solar-powered street lighting will begin across all 44 LGAs to bolster nighttime security and boost local commerce.

EV Charging Pilot: The government is establishing electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at strategic locations within Kano metropolis as a pilot program ahead of a broader statewide rollout.

Grassroots Security Boost

Following a strategic meeting between Governor Yusuf and the Minister of Defence, Kano is reinforcing its existing security framework (comprising the Nigeria Police Force and Neighbourhood Watch):

New Security Arms: Forest Guards and dedicated military bases will be deployed to vulnerable, security-prone LGAs.

The new infrastructure aims to neutralize rural threats, protect farming communities, and secure lives and property.

Digital & Human Capital Development

CBT & ICT Hubs: Contracts have officially been awarded for the immediate construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) and ICT centers across all 44 LGAs.

Grassroots Appointments: To ensure robust political stability and clear communication, 50 Special Reporters and 35 Advisers will be appointed per LGA, with 15 advisory slots explicitly allocated to former APC structure members.
