The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening collaboration between the media and security agencies to safeguard democracy and national integrity.
Speaking at the ongoing Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) National Security Summit in Abuja, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, delivered Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s message, emphasizing the media’s critical role in shaping public perception and supporting governance.
Governor Yusuf highlighted journalists as a vital bridge to the youth and wider society, urging the press to actively combat fake news, disinformation, and misinformation.
“The media has the responsibility of informing the public about government activities while also protecting and preserving the integrity of the nation,” Waiya stated on behalf of the governor. “This is part of our constitutional duty as citizens.”
Describing the summit’s theme as “timely and visionary,” Waiya noted that security reporting requires careful handling to balance press freedom with national interest.

To foster this synergy, the commissioner highlighted Kano State’s ongoing initiatives:
The state continues to provide operational vehicles and logistics to the Police, NSCDC, JTF, and other security formations.
Press Freedom: Both government-owned and private media outlets in Kano operate in a free, enabling environment without harassment or intimidation.

The government regularly organizes professional development programs for local journalists to enhance reporting standards and service delivery.
“We are creating a nexus between the media, security, and government,” Waiya concluded, reaffirming Kano State’s dedication to constitutional values, press freedom, and collaborative governance as essential pillars for peace and development.
