DMCSA Hosts UK FCDO-Lafiya Delegation to Strengthen Health Commodities Security in Kano

PRESS RELEASE

The Director General of the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA), Pharm. Gali Sule, alongside his Management Team, today, Thursday, 26th March 2026, received a high-level delegation from the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the Lafiya Programme, during a working visit to the Agency.

The visiting delegation, led by Juliet Whitley, the Head of Health at FCDO, stated that the purpose of the visit was to deepen understanding of Kano State’s priorities and ongoing health system strengthening initiatives, particularly in the area of commodities security. According to her, the effort aligns with the Presidential Initiative on Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), aimed at improving access, affordability, and sustainability of healthcare commodities across Nigeria.

In his remarks, Pharm. Gali Sule thanked the FCDO Lafiya for the critical interventions and sustained support provided to the Agency and Kano State at large.

The interventions, according to Pharm. Sule, include support for nutrition initiatives such as Tom Brown production, logistics support for Integrated Last-Mile Distribution (iLMD) of Family Planning commodities, and a technical assistance in the review of the Essential Medicines List and Pricing Policy.

The DG then commended the UK Government, through the FCDO and its Palladium Lafiya Programme, for their continued partnership and commitment to strengthening the healthcare system in Kano State.

Funded by the UK Government, the Palladium-implemented Lafiya Programme has remained a strategic partner in advancing Nigeria’s health sector transformation. Under the leadership of Dr. Usman Gwarzo, the programme has, since 2020, consistently provided valuable technical assistance aimed at enhancing health systems at both federal and state levels.

The visit underscores the shared commitment of all stakeholders to improving health outcomes and ensuring sustainable access to quality medicines and healthcare services for the people of Kano State.
