Dala Council Chairman Welcomes Committee on Motor Park Monitoring and Anti–Child Trafficking

Executive Chairman of Dala Local Government Council, Alhaji Suraj Ibrahim Imam, has received members of the Taskforce responsible for monitoring motor parks and curbing the trafficking of children

Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Committee, Major Adamu Abubakar Usman (Rtd.), stated that the purpose of the call was to formally introduce themselves before him he explained that the committee was constituted by the Kano State Government to strengthen security at motor parks and other loading points statewide.

Major Adamu further disclosed that the committee has been mandated to tour motor parks with the aim of tackling criminal activities, protecting lives and property, likewise safeguarding the wellbeing of the generality.

He added that the outfit will also focus on preventing the trafficking of the underage who are often taken outside the state or country and subjected to changes in religion and cultural ideology,

According to him, the committee has equally been directed to curtail the trafficking and inflow of illicit drugs into Kano State by criminal elements.

Responding, the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Suraj Ibrahim Imam, described the issues highlighted by the visitors as real challenges confronting Kano State assuring them of the council’s readiness to work in tandem with them with a view to ensuring the ends justify the means as in his words two heads are better than one.

He noted that Dala has a major motor park with routes linking several countries including Niger, Libya, Algeria, Burkina Faso, Togo and Ghana,

Alhaji Suraj Ibrahim Imam emphasised that the task is not the responsibility of the committee alone but rather one and all stressing the need for collective support and cooperation in that respect to ensure the success of the assignment.

He also used the opportunity to commend members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at Kofar Ruwa Motor Park for their vigorous effort in ensuring sanity across the length and breadth of the park.

The Chairman moreover advised the business community on the need to consider the installation of scanning and screening machines at motor parks as such a measure would help seriously in reducing the movement of illegal items, enhance security, and create employment opportunities for youths.
