Kano State Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing flood control drainage project in Toranke, Ajingi Local Government Area.
Speaking during an inspection visit on Tuesday, Dr. Hashim highlighted the significance and impact of the intervention.
“For years, the people of Toranke have battled recurring floods that displaced hundreds of residents, damaged homes, and disrupted livelihoods.
This current project, now nearing completion, is part of the broader flood control and mitigation initiative spearheaded by the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf,” he said.
We are not only addressing immediate risks but also putting in place lasting solutions to protect lives and livelihoods.
The project is already showing promising results, with residents reporting a significant reduction in flooding incidents.”
Dr. Hashim also reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to delivering sustainable environmental solutions across the state.
“We remain committed to safeguarding our communities and strengthening resilience against the growing threats of climate change,” he added.
He described the Toranke project as a testament to the government’s resolve to confront environmental challenges head-on and to ensure that no community is left behind in the pursuit of safety and sustainability.
