SCI: BOOST PROJECT TRAIN WDCs AND HEALTH VOLUNTEERS TO STRENGTHEN HEALTH CARE SERVICES IN THE COUNTRY

A four day training on partnership defined quality scorecard for ward development committee members was organized by save The children international both In Kano and. Lagos states.

A facilitator mallam Ahmed  isiyaku said that the essence of the training was to guide the WDCs members to lead the process and support the core group facilitators towards implementing of the partnership defined quality scorecard in Lagos and Kano states as part of the community intervention by the boost project.

The intervention areas in Kano state are in Gezawa and Ungoggo Local Government Areas while in Lagos states are alimosho and ikorodu local government areas.

The said number of participants cuts across both states which are in total number of  three hundred and eleven participants including facilitators.

The Deputy community engagement focal person Ahmed Isiyaku stated that the PDQS is a monitoring tool meant for the ward development committee members who were taught on how to use it in tracking progress reports in relation to the health facilities in the community.

He said that each member of the ward development committee has been trained per facility cluster to support the core group facilitators on how to facilitate the quality improvement of the health facilities.

The wdcs we’re taught on how to use the PDQS monitoring tools to enable the community to table out their problems affecting their health facilities by themselves i.e on issues on what is causing the women in the community not accessing the health facility, the community along with the health workers will draw out a plan on how to track the problems in other to find out within  three to Six months on how they have recorded progress or otherwise.

Example attitude of health workers to clients has the attitude of health workers changed towards the patients so the essence of the tool is to track and report success or not in regards to the health facilitiy in the area and make ways to proffer solutions to the problems mallam iisiyaku emphasized’,.

Interviewing WDCs in kano Sunusi Abdul jogana (jogana ward) as well as his counterpart in Lagos (ikorodu ward).

Both appreciated the four day training as it was knowledge impactful, as this has given them more focus in advocating for people in the community through use of outreaches to make parents bring forward their under five children to receive the routine immunization, chief vitalis stated,”.

A monthly interface meeting will be held with health workers to share out challenging issues at the health facility to have a common ground in resolving iissues in the health facilities,mallam Sunusi jogana stressed’,.
