BHCPF: Kano prioritises renovation of PHC facilities

The Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (SPHCMB) in its efforts towards facilitating the delivery of qualitative health services at all levels of care has renovated BHCPF PHC facilities to ensure it meets the requisite PHC standards. 

In a press statement issued by Kano State Led Accountability Mechanism (KanSLAM). Knowledge Management and Communication Committee  Vice Chairperson, Nasiru Yusuf Ibrahim.

To this end the board recently awarded contract for the renovation and upgrade of additional 11 Primary Health Centres in the State. 

The Director General of the Board Dr Mohammed Nasir Mahmoud disclosed this during a 2 Day Basic Health Care Provision (BHCPF) DFF Utilisation and financial management review session held in Bafra, Hotel, Kaduna with the support from FCDO Lafiya Programme.

He said Kano being the state with highest number of local government areas and political wards is getting the largest share of BHCPF funds in the country. 

He revealed that Kano is getting BHCPF fund through National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and National Primary Healthcare Management Agency (NPHCDA) gateways. 

Commenting on the workshop, Dr Mahmoud said it was organised to review DFF utilisation and financial management systems ranging from access to fund, utilisation, accountability, retirement, challenges and to also share learning. While also appreciating Lafiya Programme and UNICEF for its support to the board

The Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) scheme.

The  BHCPF is a health intervention scheme established under National Health Act (2014) to provide basic health care services to poor and vulnerable.

The BHCPF programme contributes to initiatives towards actualising Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all and facilitation of availability of one functional PHC per political ward.

Furthermore, it aims to reduce maternal mortality rate by 31% (from 576 to 400 per 100,000 live births), neo maternal rate by 33% (from 39 to 26 per 1,000 live births) and under five mortality rate by 29% (from 120 to 85 per 1,000 live births) with 50% of BHCPF.

The purpose of the BHCPF is to ensure the provision of basic health care package of health services to all Nigerians through National Health Insurance Scheme NHIS and state Kano State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency KSCHMA.

Another purpose of the programme is “Strengthening the Primary Health Care (PHC) system through the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) with 45% of BHCPF.
