Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially sworn in Umar Farouk Ibrahim as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG). The swearing-in ceremony, held on Monday at the Governor’s Office, was officiated by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi.
Ibrahim’s appointment follows the dismissal of his predecessor, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, along with the Chief of Staff and five other commissioners. According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the new SSG was selected for his vast experience and expertise, which are expected to help drive the administration’s development agenda.
Governor Yusuf expressed confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to contribute meaningfully to his government’s vision for Kano State.
With a distinguished public service career spanning over three decades (1987–2023), Ibrahim has held several key leadership positions that have shaped the state’s governance and administration.
From March 2001 to May 2015, he served as the Permanent Secretary for Research, Evaluation, and Political Affairs in the Office of the SSG.
He later served as the Permanent Secretary for Administration and General Services from June 2015 to March 2016.
A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (1985), Ibrahim has also obtained several professional certifications that further strengthen his credentials.
