Kano Boosts Family Planning Decision-Making through 44-LGA Data Training

The Kano State Ministry of Health and the Kano State Primary Healthcare Management Board (KSPHCMB), in collaboration with MSI International, have concluded a two-day Data Management Training for Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers from the state’s 44 Local Government Areas.

The training, held at Butterfly Garden Hotel, Kaduna, from 22nd to 23rd August 2026, focused on strengthening data management and reporting for improved monitoring, planning and evidence-based decision-making across family planning and other health interventions.

He said the state’s improved data performance has earned commendation at both state and national levels, including recognition from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).

Professor Ibrahim also acknowledged the sustained support of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, whose investments in the health sector include free maternal health services across 484 Apex Health Facilities, 500 free Caesarean sections every month and the provision of free MCH commodities worth between ₦50 million and ₦60 million.

The training assessed progress recorded through outreach, MS Ladies channels and other interventions, while reviewing data flow across the various channels.

Participants examined challenges affecting monthly reporting of outreach and MS Ladies activities from health facilities, identified existing gaps and agreed on practical measures to improve data quality, completeness and timely reporting.

In a presentation, the Regional Manager, North-West 1, MSI Nigeria Reproductive Choices, Hajiya Suwaiba Abubakar, highlighted the Expanding Access to Family Planning Project in Kano and Kaduna States, which seeks to increase access to comprehensive family planning services, expand method choice and accelerate progress towards Nigeria’s Family Planning 2030 goals, with particular attention to first-time parents and potential postpartum family planning users.
