The Jigawa State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has officially ratified the appointment of Comrade Aminu Umar Shuwajo as its new Secretary following the resignation of Comrade Aisha Ahmed.
The elevation was formally endorsed during a Congress meeting held on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the NUJ Press Centre in Dutse, in accordance with the NUJ Constitution.
Alongside Shuwajo’s ratification, Comrade Sadiya Inuwa Musa of Jigawa Television (JTV) was elected as the new Assistant Secretary following a recommendation by the State Executive Council.

The Congress extended its sincere gratitude to Governor Mallam Umar A. Namadi for securing Jigawa’s hosting rights for the upcoming NUJ National Executive Council (NEC) meeting and approving financial backing for the state’s forthcoming Press Week.
To ensure a successful event, delegates approved the creation of key organizing and awards committees, while endorsing candidates for Merit Awards whose nominations will go to the NUJ National Secretariat for final approval.
Members commended jigawa television (JTV) Managing Director Alhaji Abba Muhammad Tukur for donating sports kits to the Jigawa Media Football Team.
The council also resolved to host a warm reception for the NUJ National President and visiting NEC members during the grand finale of the SWAN Media and Security Football Tournament.

In a communique signed by Shuwajo, the council reaffirmed its ongoing commitment to ethical journalism, member welfare, and fostering strategic partnerships to drive development across Jigawa State and the nation.
