3rd National Para Games: Kano Athletes Urge To Display talent, Optimistic winning Gold medals

Kano State para-athletes have been urged to compete with determination, fairness, and true sportsmanship at the 3rd edition of the National Para Games in Abuja.

The Acting Chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Dr. Murtala Musa, gave this charge while addressing the state’s contingent at the Commission on Friday.

He described the games as a symbol of peace, unity, and regional development through sports, highlighting the opportunities they provide for youths to excel both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Murtala also appreciated the efforts of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for prioritising sports development, noting that it provides young people with opportunities to showcase their talents and contributes to economic growth in the country.

Lawan Bashir Lawan, speaking on behalf of the athletes, expressed confidence that they can replicate their 2022 success, when they won a gold medal.

He also appealed to the authorities to settle their outstanding payments, noting that the athletes remain hopeful their entitlements will be paid.

Kano State will compete in several sports, including para-athletics, para-karate, para-taekwondo, and para-powerlifting.

Other events include para-badminton, para-table tennis, para-volleyball, amputee football, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair tennis, para-shooting, and para-soccer.

“The National Para Games always build bridges and bring people together in peace and solidarity, while also giving para-athletes the opportunity to showcase their talents.
