The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to improving child and maternal health through the strengthening of routine immunization (RI) services.

Today’s meeting marks a particularly significant milestone in highlighting the state’s efforts to expand immunization coverage and reduce the number of zero-dose children across Kano State.

As part of this drive, the board has officially launched a Service Delivery Monitoring (SDM) system, a robust platform dedicated to tracking and monitoring Routine immunization (RI)service delivery across both fixed and outreach sessions. The SDM initiative is designed to boost coverage, strengthen accountability, and ensure more reliable immunization routines across the state.

Speaking during the launch, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), expressed his commitment to ensuring that the right structures and resources are in place.

He assured stakeholders that funds will be made available to support routine immunization outreach sessions, while also emphasizing the need to review existing micro plans to improve effectiveness.

He further stressed his keen interest in strengthening accountability mechanisms that will guarantee transparent and measurable results.

Dr. Folake Oni, Project Director at Acasus, commended the state for its leadership and foresight, noting: “With the DG’s commitment, we hope to see the number of zero-dose children drop significantly in the next four months.”

The initiative is being implemented with the strong support of Acasus and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in partnership with the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board.

This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to safeguarding the health and future of women and children while building a stronger and more accountable health system.

Participants expressed confidence that with this renewed focus, accountability framework, and multi-stakeholder collaboration, Kano State will continue to record remarkable progress in immunization coverage and the overall delivery of primary health care.

Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board remains resolute in its mission to ensure no child is left behind and that preventable diseases are eradicated through sustained immunization efforts.
