The Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring a better quality of life for retirees in the state.
The Governor made this statement today while declaring open a two-day capacity-building training program for public servants on early preparation for retirement and life after retirement.
The event, organized by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC), Kano State Council, was held in Kaduna.
Representing the Governor, the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, emphasized the administration’s commitment to clearing the backlog of gratuities inherited from the previous government. He noted that this effort has significantly improved the welfare of retirees in the state.
Alhaji Abdullahi Musa further assured public servants of the government’s resolve to adequately prepare them for retirement, ensuring a smooth and fulfilling transition into life after active service.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Governmental Affairs, Alhaji Usman Bala, MNI, Stated that retirement is not the end of life but a new beginning . He encouraged labour unions to continue organizing capacity-building programs to help workers plan effectively for retirement.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Joint Negotiating Council in Kano State, Comrade Hashim Saleh, underscored that the program aims to educate workers on effective retirement planning and financial management.
The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Council, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, also called on the Joint Negotiating Council to explore collaborative farming initiatives with the Ministry of Agriculture to support retirees with alternative sources of livelihood.
Key presentations during the event were delivered by Alhaji Abba Adamu Danguguwa, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology, and Comrade Ali Mannir Matawalle, a veteran labour leader.
At the event, the Joint Negotiating Council, Kano State, led by Comrade Hashim Saleh, presented a special merit award to the *Executive* *Governor* *of* *Kano* *State* , Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, in recognition of his administration’s efforts to improve the lives of retirees.
