The Kano Ministry of Humanitarian and Poverty Alleviation has taken a significant step towards addressing the challenges faced by the state.
The ministry held a stakeholder meeting to set the agenda for a five-year strategy plan, which aims to tackle issues such as climate change, flooding, food security, and youth restlessness.
These issues have far-reaching consequences, including hindering healthcare delivery, degrading the environment, affecting education, and displacing people from their homes and workplaces.
The commissioner, Hajiya Amina Abdullahi, highlighted that Kano’s borders with other northwestern states are experiencing banditry and insecurity challenges.
She hinted that, this has led to a worsening humanitarian crisis and an increased risk of people flocking to Kano state.
Hajiya Amina pointed out that, this, in turn, creates further population problems and humanitarian crises.
The commissioner explained that, to address these challenges, the ministry is working on identifying and prioritizing humanitarian response needs and poverty alleviation strategies.
She maintained that, they are also developing and implementing a five-year strategic plan for annual operational plans.
The Technical Adviser to the ministry, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, emphasized that collaboration with government agencies, local and international organizations is crucial for effective implementation and sustainability.
The stakeholder meeting brought together over 50 members from government agencies, local and international NGOs.
